February & April School Vacation Camps

February School Vacation Camp (Ages 5-14)

Partnering with Ravens Wood Outdoor School, Touching the Earth and Arts Camp will be held this year at the Ravens Wood site in Thetford Center, just 7 minutes from traditional TEA Camp. There is a 16×20′ heated tent up in the woods, which is ‘basecamp’, and an indoor space for the beginning of the day.

Campers will be outdoors as much as possible, building snow forts, hiking and exploring, tracking, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, learning fire-building and cooking outdoors, and creating with natural arts and crafts. Walking field trips (1/2 mile) to the town-owned Hughes Forest are planned for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Children from all towns are welcome, ages 5-14. Volunteer Counselor-in-Training positions available for ages 15-18, if enrollment space allows.

3-day or 5-day options.

Program: Our goals are to provide a small group outdoor experience, and to teach:

  • Respect for the environment, and respect for each other.
  • Environmental awareness while exploring out-of-doors.
  • Creativity through natural arts.

REGISTRATION:     Partnering with Ravens Wood Outdoor School, we have registration online at their website:      www.ravenswoodindependentschool.org

April School Vacation Camp (Ages 5-14)-dates tbd

Based at our home campsite in S. Strafford, VT, this camp focuses on outdoor skills, including fire-building, campfire cooking, cross country skiing (gear provided), exploration, snow forts (if we get enough snow!), and natural arts. We do come indoors during this camp, but spend a good amount of time outdoors if the weather is fair. Depending on the season, we can see about kayaking skills on Miller Pond. It may not be time yet!! Kids would stay dry! Middle and High School Counselors-in-Training are welcome to apply.

LOCATION: the program will take place at a base camp located at my property on Miller Pond Rd in S. Strafford. Carpooling from Thetford available.

TIME: 8:30-4:30, but you can pick up when you get back from work, hopefully before 6pm. Mornings can be stretched too, if you need to leave for work early. Before/Aftercare costs to be determined.

RATES: This week will be sliding scale $60-80/day, $50-70/day for multiple days

ACTIVITIES:  XC skiing (I have gear, you are welcome to bring your own), exploring, outdoor winter skills, such as campfires and outdoor cooking, natural arts such as fiber arts and clay, and block printing. As this is alot of activity for 2-3 days, we will go with the interests of the children in these areas.

FOOD: We provide one of the snacks, children bring their lunches and one snack.

Summer Vacation Camp,    June 26-30, 2017

Based at Bonna’s land in S. Strafford, we will do explorations, team building games, natural arts and preparation for the overnight.  We will learn kayaking skills in preparation for the two day trip, from Bradford to Orford on flat water on the river. We stay at a primitive campsite.
